About Dispatch from Sunset

Dispatch from Sunset is a narrative journalism project, collecting stories at the intersection of climate, mental health, and spirituality across cultures and ecologies.

Its mission is to document the evolution of consciousness, relationships, and the material realities of organic life in the Anthropocene. Specifically, this means studying:

  • Communal Grieving Practices — How are we coming together to metabolize trauma and loss?

  • Practical Adaptation Strategies — How are we preparing to replicate our bodies with considerably less access to materials and energy?

  • Cultural Immune Responses — How are we rediscovering old and generating new ways of being in relationship?

About me (Oisín Reed-Kelly)

I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, the son of an ex-priest turned community college philosophy teacher from the West of Ireland and an Appalachian hippie turned ecofeminist scholar and caregiver.

After spending my 20s working for various startups in San Francisco, spiritual burnout has led me to begin this project.

My parents and I intend to move to Ireland to reunite with my sister and extended family in the autumn of 2025, where I plan to pursue training as a psychotherapist. I also intend to continue practicing my love of being in nature, cooking, music, dancing, and being silly with my friends and family.
